Chilangos

Chilangos is a Mexican restaurant located in the West End neighborhood of Providence. Most people refer to Chilangos as a “hidden-gem” in Providence, but I don’t think it will stay hidden for long. Parking can be a little tricky so plan ahead.

We enjoyed the guacamole and tortilla soup to start our meal – delicious. We opted for the Al Pastor for tacos with our margaritas, and they did not disappoint. The staff suggested flan for dessert, which was great. Overall, it’s a great find for authentic tacos near Providence that has yet to become super popular (yet).

La Lupita Tacos Mexicanos

La Lupita Tacos Mexicanos is a popular Mexican restaurant located in the West Side of Providence. This is the place to go if you are looking for tacos in Providence.

With many protein options, they also offer three options for their taco toppings – regular (onions and cilantro only), extra (onions and cilantro plus cheese, lettuce, tomato, and sour cream), and supreme (all of the same toppings as the extra plus avocado). In addition to the tacos and burritos, we also enjoyed the street corn which was tasty.

Parking can be tricky, so keep that in mind when you go. But it’s worth it to enjoy some of the best tacos in Providence.

Diego has one of the best selections of tequila in Providence so definitely check out their margaritas. Serving up some of the best tacos in Providence is on Taco Tuesday, where you can enjoy two tacos for under $8.

In addition to flavorful tacos and burritos, they also have a bunch menu. I enjoyed the skillet with chorizo, while my wife had the chilaquiles with a side of maple cornbread souffle.

Tortilla Flats

Tortilla Flats is one of the most popular restaurants on the East Side of Providence. It’s been serving a mix of Mexican, Cajun, and Southwestern food for over 40+ years.

They have a rotating menu of specials that combine local and seasonal ingredients, sometimes centered around a theme. The queso fundido is delicious, and it can be easy to fill up on that, so pace yourself!

What I really like about this spot is that depending on what type of mood you are in, you can opt for Jambalaya and crawdads or some fajitas or quesadillas. As one of the authentic taco places near Providence, it’s really in a class of its own. There aren’t many restaurants in this area that offer a wide selection of both Cajun and Tex-Mex food.

And, of course, their margaritas are delicious – especially since you can purchase a pitcher for your table. We prefer the spicy jalapeño margarita.

If you crave tacos in Providence, you can’t beat their daily special of $2 from 3-5pm. Since they were so affordable, we tried them all….I mean, why not? I’m not a big veggie fan, but the wild mushroom tacos were great. We also had their guacamole, which has pickled red onion with offers a unique twist.

And, of course, you have to try their margaritas with the best tacos in Providence. They have tequila flights of their most popular margaritas, a great way to sample them. Oh, and the ranch water cocktail is also delicious.

This is one of my favorite spots to sit outside and enjoy some authentic Mexican food. It’s also the perfect place for a night and drinks with friends.
