Golf Courses near Salem NH: Salem

Campbell’s Scottish Highlands Golf Course

Campbell’s Scottish Highlands is an 18-hole public golf course that is links-style with rolling fairways and strategically placed bunkers.  There is no water on the course and only a few trees, so it is great for golfers of all skill levels.

This is one of the golf courses near Salem NH that is in great condition. It is short and open, so it’s easy to recover from shots that are off-target.  The course has a destination facility, with a driving range, to either warm up for your round or to improve all aspects of your game.

It offers great deals, so try to get a tee time for their ‘Monday Special’, including 18 holes, a cart, and lunch for $55!

Pine Valley Golf Course

Pine Valley GC is a 9-hole golf course located in the heart of Southern New Hampshire.  It is a great course with a challenging layout that has narrow fairways and small greens.

Most of the holes are lined with trees, so you need to have accuracy off the tee, or you’ll be scrambling for your round of golf.  This nice course has one par-5, one par-3, and the rest are par-4s.

This can make it more enjoyable for the casual golfer who wants to play on a 9-hole course with a quick pace of play.

Golf Courses near Salem NH: Windham NH

Windham Country Club

Windham CC is an 18-hole course with affordable rates and great playing conditions.  The fairways are wide open but very hilly.  You can get into trouble if you miss your landing targets off the tee.

There are tree-lined fairways, plenty of elevation, sand traps, and water hazards to test the average player.  They have a great practice facility to get warmed up for your round.  I would recommend taking a cart because of the hills, but that’s always a personal choice.

**FYI: They have a Mobility Impaired Golf program that offers adaptive clubs and carts to rent for individuals who need them.  This is an amazing feature that I have never seen in other courses in New England.**

My recommended local spot for Happy Hour: Friendly Red’s Tavern (22 Haverhill Rd #111, Windham, NH 03087)

Golf Courses near Salem NH: Methuen MA

Merrimack Valley Golf Club

Merrimack Valley is a semi private golf club that was designed by Donald Ross in 1906 and had an upgrade of the layout in 2008 by George Sargent Jr.  This links-style course is short but challenging, as it is only 5160 yards from the white tees.

I think you’ll use every club in your bag throughout the round, making it fun and worth the money. On the course, you must deal with the existing landscape, including water hazards, elevation changes, dog legs, and blind shots.

The greens are tricky; you must read the breaks to avoid the deadly 3-putt.

*FYI: Near the 17th hole is a Veteran’s memorial proudly flying the flags of the USA and the military branches.  This is another rare site for a golf course in New England and is a great way for Merrimack Valley to honor those who have served our country.

My recommended local spot for Dinner and Drinks: T-BONES Great American Eatery (311 S Broadway, Salem, NH 03079)

Golf Courses near Salem NH: Atkinson NH

Atkinson Country Club & Resort

Atkinson CC is one of the top golf courses in NH, and it is a destination vacation spot for golfers of all skill levels. The resort has a challenging 18-hole Championship golf course and a par-3 9-hole course.

This is one of the golf courses near Salem NH in excellent condition – from the tee boxes to the greens.  It is a challenging course for all skill levels but worth the trip.  Some holes have wetlands in front of tee boxes that force you to carry 50-150 yards with your drive.

Several doglegs require strategy because you don’t want to be blocked out on your approach shot with no angle to the green. The greens are slippery and have a lot of breaks. I highly recommend you read your putts from every angle to leave them close.  The rough is thick, and trees line each fairway, so you need to be consistent off the tees.
