Best Golf Courses near Stow MA

Stow is a peaceful destination for a rural New England vacation that is not too far of a drive from the major cities. It’s a short drive from Boston to enjoy the countryside.

The four golf courses near Stow MA all seem to follow the same layout regarding the track: narrow fairways that require accuracy but large greens that help you finish the hole strong.

Stow Acres Country Club – North Course

This is the best course in the Stow countryside because of its beautiful grounds and pristine condition. Designed by Geoffrey Cornish, it is set in a pine forest with ponds and streams. These natural layouts are in play on seven of the holes.

It has a well-planned and interesting layout with some challenging shots, and the tee boxes and fairways are always in great shape.  This is a thinking golfer’s course because it is not just driver/wedge all day.

My recommended local spot for Sandwiches: Nan’s Kitchen & Market (271 Great Rd, Stow, MA 01775)

Hills and Bunkers prove to be challenging.

Stow Acres Country Club – South Course

The South course is also one of the great public golf courses in Stow MA that is inviting for golfers no matter their skill level.  It has narrow fairways, thick rough, and greens roll a little slowly, but it is fun to play.

The South course plays more like risk/reward shots that will determine how low your score goes.  The two courses share a Pro Shop, driving range, practice range, and golf school, so you have a lot of options.

Butternut Farm Golf Club

Butternut Farm GC is located 1.5 miles from the two Stow Acres courses, so you have options to play when in the area.  This course is not really long, but it is challenging.

It has narrow fairways, but the greens are large, so you have some room to land your approach shot.  The layout of the holes is straightforward, and you have to play smart to get a good score.

Wedgewood Pines Country Club

Wedgewood is a private 18-hole course in Stow that offers the best scenery to enjoy when playing a round.  This course requires accuracy off the tee and doesn’t benefit the “grip and rip” driver approach.

The layout is challenging but fair because even if you miss your target, you still have a chance to get a good score.  The conditions are amazing on the tees, fairways, and greens.  It also has a practice area to warm up for your round and a public restaurant and pub to celebrate after the round.
