Bayberry Hills Golf Course: The Winds and The Sands

Bayberry Hills: The Winds and The Sands, also known as the Red and White courses, form a championship golf course that Geoffrey Cornish and Silva designed in 1988.

The tips play at over 7200 yards, and four other tee boxes offer a range of challenges suited to golfers of all ages and skill levels. The course has tree-lined fairways and large, sloping greens to test your skills.

It has a great practice facility for a public golf course on the Cape with a driving range, sand traps, a chipping green, and a huge putting green.

Bayberry Hills Golf Course: The Links

Located next to the Red/White courses of Bayberry Hills is this 9-hole links course called the Blue Course. This beautiful golf course is one of the best places to play a proper links-style course for a reasonable price.

The course is the definition of links-style golf, there are no trees, but the rolling fairways, thick fescue, and constant wind make it a real challenge for all golfers. It is a great hole walking course with an old-school feel, and the signature 18th hole is a 175-yard par-3 over a large pond.

My recommended local spot for a hearty breakfast before golf: Heavenly Restaurant (194 Main Street in West Yarmouth)

Bass River Golf Course

Bass River Golf Course is the sister course to Bayberry Hills. Donald Ross designed the course with wide fairways, dangerously placed bunkers and hazards, and his iconic sloped small greens. The course has excellent views of Bass River on the back-9.

The course’s overall length is short, only 6100 from the blue tees, so it is an excellent course for new golfers looking to have a great time with an authentic Cape Cod landscape in the background to look at.

Blue Rock Golf Course

Blue Rock has been recognized as one of the top 10 par-3 courses in the country by golfspan.com. It was designed by Geoffrey Cornish in 1962, and it is still a pristine golf course.

The holes range from 100-200 yards, so it is a great chance to practice your mid-irons and work on approach shots. If you are looking to make a vacation out of it, the Blue Rock Resort is across the street and offers stay-and-play packages.

Kings Way Golf Club

Kings Way is an executive course designed by Brian Silva, with thirteen par-3s, four par-4s, and one par-5. The hole layout weaves you in and around the King Ways community condominium complex, and it’s off the beach, but the interesting bunker layouts will give you a chance to think you are.

Executive courses give you a chance to use all of your clubs but with a focus on the mid-iron and short game. Kings Way has relatively short par-4’s and the par-5 is only 400 yards from the blue tees; this course can be a confidence booster to long hitters, but you still need to be accurate.

The Cummaquid Golf Club is a private 18-hole golf course designed by William F. Mitchell. The course was originally opened in 1895 and, throughout the years, has evolved into the championship-level design it is today. The tips play at just over 6300 yards, with a par of 71.

Dennis Pines Golf Course

Dennis Pines is a seven thousand-yard championship golf course on 170 acres of pine forest land in the middle of the Cape. Henry C. Mitchell designed this par-72 course as one of the most challenging tracks in the area.

The narrow fairways and water hazards make accuracy crucial for a good round. The most challenging hole is the banana-shaped 460-yard par-5 12th, which would require very long and very accurate shots to reach the green in regulation.

My recommended local spot for casual lobster rolls outside: Sesuit Harbor Cafe (357 Sesuit Neck Rd in Dennis)

Dennis Highlands Golf Course

Dennis Highlands is the sister course to Dennis Pines and has some similarities but overall is easier. It is a par-71 course that plays 6500 yards from the tips, and it has three sets of tees and a great practice facility.

The course has a huge grass driving range, a chipping area, and putting green to get you dialed in for your round. The fairways are much wider than the Pines course, and the pine trees aren’t as dense. The greens are challenging because they have different tiers and a variety of slopes.
